Artificial.PC

Artificial.PC is a computer program which generates random images. It employs a "visual grammar" to define an infinite set of pictures with a wide variety of styles and structures, and then draws random samples from this space. The program can also produce music by converting its image-in-progress into a sound file that is played in real time (see Artificial Music).

Artificial.PC is written in Pascal and Assembly Language and runs under DOS on IBM-compatible PC's. Exhibitions by Artificial.PC display hardcopies of output images or demonstrate the real-time performance of the program on CRT displays or data-projectors.

The principles underlying Artificial.PC were first instantiated in the HyperTalk program Artificial.Mac. The Artificial line also includes a program for virtual sculpture and architecture: Artificial.ACAD.

Een korte Nederlandstalige samenvatting van de werking van Artificial.PC vindt u in: Artificial op het Nomadisch Paviljoen (Den Haag, 1998).
